Alpine Children’s Services

Early childhood education and care is available at Alpine View Children’s Centre in Bright, Lake View Children’s Centre in Mount Beauty and Mountain View Children’s Centre in Myrtleford. Alpine View offers care from six weeks through to kindergarten, while funded kindergarten programs are available across the centres. Enrolments are managed centrally, with forms available by email request.

Alpine Shire Council Supported Playgroups

Eligible families with children from birth to four years can join free, facilitator-led playgroups during Victorian school terms. Sessions are held at listed venues in Bright, Mount Beauty and Myrtleford. Phone 0427 495 631 to ask about eligibility and current arrangements.

🌿 Family activities and youth opportunities

Howmans Gap Discovery Camp

Located near Falls Creek, Howmans Gap offers outdoor education programs and activities for families as well as schools and community groups. Contact the camp directly to check which activities and accommodation options suit your family, along with current availability.

TAC L2P Program – Alpine Shire Council

This program matches eligible learner drivers with a volunteer mentor and practice vehicle. Applicants generally need to be aged 16–21, live in Alpine Shire, hold a Victorian learner permit and lack access to a safe supervising driver and/or vehicle; some applicants up to 23 may qualify. 👶 Pregnancy, babies and child health

Alpine Health Maternity and Newborn Services

Free local support includes shared pregnancy care, feeding assistance, postnatal home visits following referral from a birthing service, and birthing and early-parenting classes across Bright, Mount Beauty and Myrtleford. Families may self-refer for pregnancy care. Classes require booking; the Maternity Coordinator can discuss options on 0438 754 019.

Alpine Shire Council Maternal and Child Health Service

Local families can access free parenting education, developmental assessment and early intervention from birth to school age. First-time parent groups support parents with babies aged about one to six months. Consultations require appointments, while enhanced home visiting needs a telephone referral from a GP, child and family service or allied health professional. Alpine Shire Council Immunisation Clinics

Monthly clinics in Bright, Mount Beauty and Myrtleford provide standard vaccinations for children aged 0–5, students in Years 7 and 10, and eligible secondary-school catch-ups. Book online before attending, bring the child’s Medicare card and Child Health Record book, and allow 15 minutes for observation afterwards.

🤝 Adolescent and family support

NESAY Adolescent Support Program

NESAY provides regional outreach to Alpine Shire for young people experiencing complex needs or high-risk behaviours. Staff work with young people and their families to support wellbeing and strengthen the home environment. Young people and families can make referrals, as can schools, community organisations and child protection.
